Product Description
SodaStream is an amazing healthy and environmentally friendly alternative to store-bought soda. Not to mention, no more lugging and storing heavy, bulky cans and bottles from the store, and no more worries about running out of soda. Soda-Club's home soda makers have special, reusable carbonating bottles so you'll cut way down on the empty bottles and cans in the recycling bin.
You can create your own flavors or buy any of Soda-Club's 20+ pre-made flavors. SodaStream has regular, diet and caffeine-free soda syrups (see at the bottom of the page). You can use these syrups individually or mix them for unique flavor combinations. Each regular flavor syrup contains far less sugar, carbohydrates, sodium and calories than store-bought sodas and diet flavors do not contain aspartame. Each Soda-Club's SodaMix flavor syrup is concentrated. Just one small bottle of SodaMix syrup will make 12 one-liter bottles of soda. Now if you want to make your own syrup, here's a recipe to get you started:
Homemade Vanilla Cream Soda
Make your own vanilla cream soda that beats anything you could possibly buy in the store.
You will need:
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- plenty of carbonated water (from your SodaStream Penguin!), half and half, and cubed or crushed ice
1. Make syrup.
The first thing you need to do is make some simple syrup. Simple syrup is more or less a lot of sucrose crystals (regular table sugar) dissolved in water.
Add 2 cups of sugar and 1 cup of water into a small saucepan. Put it on the stove on high. Stir until all the sugar is dissolved. It should look cloudy, but when the solution boils, it should turn clear. Once the mixture is clear, remove from stove and cool for 6 minutes.
2. Add vanilla.
Take your cooled down simple syrup and add a tablespoon of pure vanilla extract.
Using a funnel, pour the syrup mixture into a storage container. Recycled plastic salad dressing bottles work well for this. Make sure to choose a container that is easy to pour out of since you'll be using this to add the syrup to your soda.
Store the bottle of mixture in your refrigerator until cool.
You can alternatively use the mixture right away but it will melt the ice in your soda, so it's best to chill before use. You can also run the bottle under cold water or throw it in an ice bath if you want to use the mixture immediately.
3. Mix it and get ready to enjoy delicious homemade soda!
Pour about 1.5 oz of the mixture per 12 oz. glass of soda, about 8 oz. seltzer, a splash of half and half (use these ratios more or less to taste), and ice as desired.
Stir it up and enjoy!
You can also leave the vanilla extract out and use other things to sweeten your syrup. For example, try plain syrup with lime juice.
